BEQUESTS

Bequests to Marsh Memorial Homes

Marsh Memorial Homes exists because of an act of generosity. In the early 1900s, William Marsh left a gift in his will that allowed us to purchase the property and build the first homes. His legacy has shaped generations of children’s lives, and today, many continue to follow in his footsteps by including Marsh Memorial in their wills.

By making a bequest, you ensure that your compassion carries on, nurturing, protecting, and giving children the chance to heal and succeed in the future.

WHAT IS A BEQUEST?

A bequest is a gift you leave in your will - either a sum of money, property, or a percentage of your estate. It allows you to make a lasting difference, even after your lifetime.

THE BENEFITS MAKING A BEQUEST

It’s a powerful way to support the causes you care about. Bequests to Public Benefit Organisations (PBOs) can reduce estate tax. It allows your legacy to live on through the children you help support. We recommend speaking with your financial advisor, bank, or lawyer to ensure your will is legally valid and your wishes are clearly stated.

HOW CAN MARSH MEMORIAL HOMES USE A BEQUEST?

Every bequest - big or small - helps us to help the children. Larger gifts may be used to improve our facilities, buy vehicles, or expand our programs. Smaller gifts go toward essential day-to-day costs like maintenance, meals, clothing, and care. You're also welcome to visit Marsh Memorial Homes to see the impact of your support and explore where your bequest might be used.

TYPES OF BEQUESTS

A specific sum of money

This is the simplest form of bequest, but makes no allowance for the effects of inflation or any changes in the value of your estate. If you choose this option, you may need to review your will from time to time to ensure the bequest remains what you wish it to be.

Specific items

Valuable items such as property, motor vehicles, antiques, art works, jewellery, etc. may be bequeathed to a PBO.

A percentage of your estate

This ensures a fair distribution amongst all the beneficiaries and avoids inflation-related issues.

The residue of your estate

Whatever is left over after all taxes, liabilities and other bequests have been paid is known as the residue. You can bequeath the whole of the residue or a percentage of it.

A life insurance policy

An existing policy can be left to Marsh Memorial Homes making us the beneficiary of the policy. Or you can take out a new policy naming us as the beneficiary. We are grateful for all bequests no matter the size, as even the smallest makes a difference in the lives of the children we care for.
